WEEK 3: Up, Up and Away

DAY 1: A Heated Debate

Activity 1: Togs or Trackies? [4 points]

On your blog, tell us what time of year you think is best for tourists for come and visit. Be sure to share at least three things that tourists could do while they were here in NZ.

I, personally, want to encourage more tourists and people who are overseas to come and visit New Zealand in the middle of Summer. Firstly the weather is obviously hot but sometimes warm and dry. Secondly you can go with your family, friend or whoever you came with to see New Zealand's prettiest views. Lastly you could go and see the Marae's and see their traditional patterns and clothes.

Activity 2: You are my Sunshine [4 points]

On your blog, list five different things that we can do to protect ourselves from the sun this summer!

Remember to - Slip, Slip, Slop, Slap, Wrap

1. Slip on a shirt

2. Slip into shade

3. Slop on sunscreen

4. Slap on hat

5. Wrap on sunglasses

Activity 3: Burning Up… [15 points]

On your blog, post a picture of your graph.

Thanks to the Summer Learning Journey Team Members!

  1. Hey there Tufui, my name is Billy and I am from the Summer Learning Journey programme. It's awesome to see how hard you've been working over the summer break. It's a great way to keep up with your reading and writing so that when you start back at school you'll be more than ready.

Thanks for posting five different tips for staying safe in the sun this summer. I like writing that sentence because it has a lot of 's' sounds at the beginning of words.

I am currently living in London, England, where the sun isn't shining at all! It's the middle of winter so it's dark a lot of the day. A little bit depressing but it's a lot of fun here. Still, I'm missing home (NZ) a lot.

What sort of outdoor activities have you been enjoying lately?

    Thanks, Billy.

    1. Hey Billy, Thanks for commenting on my blog. You are lucky to be in London, England. I hope you are having a nice holiday with your family. I have been swimming, playing rugby and other sorts of things. I have a question. DO you know when Summer Learning Journey finishes? If you do please let me know.

      See you later! Tufui.

  3. Anyounghaseyo Tufui,

I think you picked a fun season for tourists to come over for a visit, summer is a really hot and busy time of year but trips to the beach, river or pools make it worth it.

Perhaps next time you could include the names and a bit of background information about the places you suggested and perhaps a few pictures. This way tourists could have idea of what to expect if they do decide to visit any of our beautiful landmarks, Maraes, cultural sites or pools, beaches, rivers, waterfalls, and lakes.

You have created a titled graph to present data about the temperatures in the hottest places in the world. Perhaps next time you could be more detailed with the labelling on your graph, for example, you could put a note on the left side to let people know what the numbers mean. In this case it would be 'Temperature (°C - degrees celsius)' and the bottom could be labelled 'Places'.

I feel a little better about the heat we've been having in Auckland now that I've compared how hot the temperatures have been in those five places! Here in Aotearoa over the past 50 years we've had some really hot weather. Do you know how many °C the hottest day in Aotearoa was? Let me know if you find out.

I look forward to reading more of your blog posts over the summer. :)

    Toe feiloa'i fo'i,

    Cia.
