WEEK 1 DAY 3: Awesome Animals

Activity 1: Fantastic Beasts [4 points]

On your blog, post a description of your beast. Use interesting adjectives (describing words) to tell us about your beast.
My beast looks like a round squishy ball. It likes to eat sweets such as candy. Whenever someone pulls out a piece of candy my round beast/creature will spin as fast as flash just to eat the candy. As soon as my creature snatches your piece of candy you will jump up with such a big shock. My animal is kind and gentle but whenever he wants something it is selfish. My creature/beast feels furry and soft like a pillow. My creature/beast sounds like bird singing a song. Does it have any talons or claws? Yes indeed my creature/beast has claws and it is sharp like a knife.

Activity 2: The Secretive Skink [4 points]

On your blog list three pros (good things) and three cons (bad things) about working as a DOC ranger. At the bottom of your post, tell us whether you would like to be a DOC Ranger or not.
Pros - Good things
Con - Bad things
1. In my opinion the pro about being a DOC Ranger is because you get to explore and see new and interesting reptiles or animals.
2. You can also learn and know more about them and where they come from.
3. Lastly whenever the reptiles or animals need help your there whenever they need you.

1. In my opinion the con thing about being a DOC Ranger is that sometimes the animals or reptiles might hurt you.
2. Also the con thing about being a DOC Ranger is that you don't really get to spend much time with your family.
3. Lastly the con thing about being a DOC Ranger is that what if there are people who actually don't take care of the reptiles or animals properly.

Do I want to be a DOC Ranger?
No because I have two dreams that I want to try and reach once I'm older. One of them is to be a hairdresser. The other is to be a zookeeper.

Activity 3: The WWF: World Wildlife Fund [10 points]

Once you have watched the video, go to your blog and, using full sentences, tell us:
1) The name of the animal the WWF is working to save.
2) What the WWF is doing to help the animal.
3) What, if any, success they have had protecting the animal.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) are trying to help the Freshwater Seals by building them snowbanks. The WWF are building snowbanks because if the seals give birth in a lair it digs into a snow bank. If there aren't any snowbanks then the pups are born on open ice which isn't good because they have no protections against predators and cold. Up to half of the pups could die. So that's why WWF builds snowbanks for the pups to be born.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) are trying to save the tigers and are changing the worlds opinion.

  3. Talofa again Tufui,

You are on a roll with your posts!

    Activity 1:
Well done, you have written a nice little description of your creature/beast. By the sounds of it your beast is on the cute side because it's round and squishy! I like that you described a bit of your beasts personality, I wouldn't have imagined it being crazy about candy.

Perhaps next time you could add a little more detail about the beasts facial features so your readers can paint a better picture of what it looks like in their minds. Does it have any talons or claws?

    Activity 2:
I can see that you thought really carefully about what it would take to be a DOC Ranger.

You have added two pros and cons about working as a DOC ranger. Remember that the activity asks for THREE pros and cons. You also need to state whether or not you'd want to be a DOC Ranger. I am curious about your response..

Please remember to update your post with one more pro and con as well as whether you'd want to be a DOC Ranger, in order to gain full points for this activity. You got this! :)

    Activity 3:
I can tell you were paying close attention to the video clip because you have picked up on lots of the information that was shared. WWF is doing an important job to protect these Seal Pups from the dangers that surround them.

Perhaps next time you could add some information about the tools they use to build these snowbanks that protect the Freshwater Seal Pups and help them survive. What do you think would happen if the WWF did not build these snow banks?

I am concerned about how little the numbers are for Freshwater Seals. It reminds me of our treasured birds, the Kakapo who are also an endangered species. Do you know of any other endangered species in Aotearoa? Let me know in the comment section below.

Keep up the good work Tufui.

    Toe feiloa'i fo'i,

    Cia.

  4. Hi there Cia,

Its me Tufui again and I added in one con and pro about being a DOC Ranger. If the WWF didn't build these snow banks then the pups would die and they might get endangered.

I think that the kiwi is getting endangered in Aotearoa.

Thanks by the way have a great holiday!

    See you later Cia!
