DAY 4: Like a Scene Out of a Movie

Activity 1: The Southern Lights [4 points]

On your blog, use the word ‘LIGHTS’ to write an acrostic poem about the Southern Lights. Be as creative as you can!

L - Lovely, lovely, lovely lights

I - Intelligent colours above

G - Great sorts of transformation

H - Happy eyes twinkling

T - Tears or joy running down their eyes

S - Southern Lights

Activity 2: The Seven Sisters [4 points]

On your blog, write a short summary of the book. What was it about? Try to summarise the story in 6-8 sentences.
There was an adventurous young man called Mitai who lived with his seven brothers in a village called Maketu. His seven brothers were the most handsomest men in the village. They heard singing coming over from the mountains. They saw seven beautiful women with golden hair shining so bright. As soon as Mitai's brothers saw them they already fell in love with them but, except for Mitai.

As soon as possible the seven brothers brought them to the village to make them their wives. Once they became their wives the wives treated them as slaves. The wives never really ate anything except for seafood. The seven brothers weren't the most handsomest men in the village anymore because they became skinny and bony. One day one of the brothers came to see his wife but she wasn't there. Then he went to check on his other brothers to see if they seen his wife but all of their wives disappeared.

Mitai was suspicious about his brothers wives. Mitai saw these birds and then Mitai followed them. He was very surprised because the birds were his brothers wives. They created a magic net and catched the wives so they won't do their evil plan. Then Mitai threw them to heaven but heaven fell in love too so they became the seven stars.

Activity 3: Crazy, Cool Clouds [5 points]

On your blog, tell us what you see in the photo. What shape(s) do you see? Be sure to tell us which picture (1, 2 or 3) you have chosen and describe what you see in lots of detail!.

Picture #2

I see a cloud formed into a shape. I see a tornado or a spaceship. It is very cool and creative.

  2. Hi Tufui,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team reading your blog from my home in Canada.

You've done an excellent job of all 3 of these activities. Good for you!!

I love love love your acrostic poem. You've used beautiful words to describe the magnificence of the Southern Lights. This is one of the best poems I've read - well done!!

And I think that your re-telling of the story about the Seven Sisters is very good. You've given a good sense of what happens to the brothers such that the wives are seen to have an evil intent. Even though they had to be prevented from hurting their husbands further, their beauty was not to be wasted so the sisters were thrown into the sky where they could be seen by all. That's rather a happy ending to what was a sad story, isn't it?

I live in the northern hemisphere so the night sky that I see is different than yours in some ways. We do see the Seven Sisters, however. How cool is that?!

Do you ever lie out at night to look at the constellations? Or do you ever get to lie out in the grass on a summer day and look at the clouds floating by?

I agree with you that this cloud formation looks like a tornado or spaceship. That's exactly how I would describe it too. Well done!!

I hope you're enjoying this Summer Learning Journey and I hope you'll keep up your good work!!!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
